200 WICKETS

April 25, 2013

Abdur Razzak completed his 200 wickets in One Day International Cricket while playing in the third ODI match against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. He is the first bowler from Bangladesh to reach this landmark.

Razzak needed 5 wickets in the 3rd ODI to complete his 200 wickets. It was not an easy task against a heavyweight Sri Lankan batting line up. But, Razzak managed to do it. He got three wickets in his first spell of 8 overs.

The first batsman whom Razzak dismissed was Kumar Sangakkara. He bowled a fuller length ball on the pads of Sangakkara who tried to flick it through midwicket. The ball gripped the surface and turned a bit. Because of that slight turn, Sangakkara couldn’t hit the ball from the sweet part of the bat and the ball went in the air. The fielder at short midwicket completed the catch easily.

In his next over, Razzak got another one. This time, it was Thisara Perera who perished. Razzak went through his defense and bowled him.

Razzak dismissed Angelo Mathews in his eighth over with a flighted delivery. Mathews came out of his crease while trying to play a big shot and was stumped.

That was the last over of Razzak’s spell. The Bangladeshi skipper Mushfiqur Rahim saved Razzak’s two overs for the later stages of the innings.

Razzak was brought back into the attack in the 46th over. He couldn’t take any wicket in that over and gave away 12 runs. He was taken off again.

Razzak came on to bowl the last over of the innings and he dismissed Nuwan Kulasekara on the first ball of that over. Kulasekara was given out leg before wicket. On the next ball, Sachithra Senanayaka was clean bowled and Razzak got his 200th wicket.

Razzak’s figures at the end of the innings were 5-52 in 10 overs.
