RAHIM NOT HAPPY

March 28, 2014

The captain of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, Mushfiqur Rahim, is not happy with the fact that the selectors didn’t talk to him before announcing the squad for the Asia Cup.

The selectors of all the countries generally have a chat with the captain before naming the final team of 15 or 16. So, Mushfiqur’s unhappiness is understandable.

According to the sources, Mushfiqur wanted to persist with the right arm seam bowler Shafiul Islam, but, the selectors dropped him after an unimpressive show against Sri Lanka and that’s what pissed the Bangladeshi captain off.

There have been some changes made in the selection committee of Bangladesh off late. So, it’s possible that Mushfiqur might not be getting along well with the new selectors, but, should he have made this statement publicly? That’s the main question here.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s leading left arm spinner Abdur Razzak is back into the squad for the Asia Cup. He had not played in the 3-match series against Sri Lanka and he had been missed badly by the Lions. So, Mushfiqur would certainly have been pleased by his inclusion.

Razzak is one of the most capped Bangladeshi players as far as the One Day International cricket is concerned. He has made close to 150 ODI appearances for his country and has picked up more than 200 wickets at an average of about 28.

He has not had a prolific last 12 months, but, still no one would argue that he is a class act and is capable of stepping up in big tournaments like Asia Cup.

Apart from Razzak, the other player who has made his comeback in the Bangladeshi squad for the Asia Cup is Imrul Kayas who is an opening batsman. He has also got decent amount of experience.
